June 25, 2019:
Delhi Government has issued a notification providing for charges for obtaining special numbers for vehicles or retaining such special numbers.
The notification No. DC/OPS/Tpt./2014/26079. has been issued on 20.06.2019 under the signature of Deputy Commissioner in the Transport Department.
The Notification read "Whereas the draft rules further to amend the Delhi Motor Vehicles Rules, 1993 were published as required under sub-section (1) of section 212 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, vide Notification No. F.DC/OPS/TPT/2014/445 dated 26.10.2018 in the Delhi Gazette, Extraordinary inviting objections and suggestions from all persons likely to be affected thereby, before expiry of the period of thirty days from the date on which copies of the Delhi Gazette containing the said notification were made available to public. And whereas, copies of the said Gazette notification were made available to the public on the 26th October, 2018. And whereas, no objection and suggestion has been received from the public in respect of the said draft rules. Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 65, read with rule 2(q) of the Delhi Motor Vehicles Rules, 1993, the following rules further to amend the Delhi Motor Vehicles Rules, 1993 are hereby made".
The Rules were to come into force on the date of their publication in the Delhi Gazette. Rules have now been published in the Gazette.
It provides for payment charges as "In case of non-transport four wheeled vehicle and two wheeled vehicle, the assignment of registration mark as specified in column 1 of the table given below, in any available series of registration marks shall be made available only on payment of additional fee to the highest bidder selected through open auction in respect of category 1, 2, 3 & 4 and on payment of additional fee in respect of category 5 & 6 as per table given below".
Registration Number 0001 is to be given for a sum of Rs.5,00,000/- for a four wheel vehicle whereas Rs.50,000/- is to be paid for two wheeler.
