Director Pa Ranjith, who was embroiled in a controversy recently over his comments on King Raja Raja Cholan, has now found support from SC Judge Deepak Gupta. The Judge has called out the central & state govts for stifling freedom of expression in the country. He also added that dissent against govt isn't sedition. He cited Pa Ranjith's case where is booked under 153 & 153A Indian Penal Code (IPC) on charges of promoting enmity between different groups involving religion & race.
Pa Ranjith had a statement while addressing an event organized by Neela Panpattu Maiyam. He said that the period of Rajaraja Cholan was a dark one. He said that dalit lands were taken away during his regime & that the discrimination against them also began at this time. He added that the Devadasi system also began in his rule.
