Madras High Court Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari was appointed as the Chairperson of the Appellate Tribunal established under the Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators Act (SAFEMA). The judge is slated to superannuate from his post on September 12 this year.
His monthly remuneration will be Rs. 2,50,000.
A press statement was issued this on Thursday by the Union Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue whereby it was mentioned that Chief Justice Bhandari had been appointed to the SAFEMA Tribunal for a term of four years.
Justice M Duraiswamy, the senior-most judge at Madras High Court after CJ Bhandari, was recently appointed as the acting Chief Justice and he will take over the duties of the Chief Justice from September 13 after the retirement of CJ Bhandari.
