The High Court of Gujarat asked the city Police Commissioner to oversee the investigation of a case in which a man took the custody of his daughter & fled to Uttar Pradesh during hearing of a habeas corpus petition filed by the mother.
The Court lashed out at police for not investigating the case properly & merely taking statements instead of visiting the place where the man’s location was traced. The Court asked Odhav police to form a team to bring the 6-year-old girl back from Uttar Pradesh.
The Court said that “The court does not expect the police to rest by taking mere statements from the neighbours. The lethargy is not tolerable. The course of action to be adopted by police authorities is to immediately form a team & to travel to the place where the location of the father & the daughter is traced & book him & bring both before the court".
AGP Manan Mehta assured the High Court that there would be no further delay by authorities in taking necessary steps.
The Court said that “Police will respond with concrete steps & bring the father & the daughter from UP. The commissioner of police, Ahmedabad, is directed to personally oversee the next steps taken by his subordinates in light of the present order".
