In point of fact, many airline providers often give out attractive prizes like travel coupons, restaurant discount, executive or business class upgrade coupons, etc. based on the number of hours travelled by a particular customer with that airline. To meet up the same challenge, the renowned Auckland-based airline operator, Air New Zealand announced the installation of six full-length sleep pods in its economy class.
This Star Alliance member airline service provider operates to 20 domestic and 32 international destinations across 20 countries, mostly located around and within the Pacific region. This 55-year-old airline company recently unveiled its brand new seating arrangement of ‘The Economy Skynest’. The Skynest is expected to contain six full-length flatbeds measuring 200cm long and 58cm wide divided amongst three levels of beds with two beds on each level, parallel to each other. Along with basic amenities like pillow, sheets and bedsheets, the airline assures to provide earplugs, privacy curtain along with USB outlet and a reading light.
Air New Zealand’s chief marketing and customer officer, Mike Tod asserted that the said design is likely to be launched in longest haul flights including Auckland-New York service which amounts to a tedious 17 hours and 40 minutes journey. He further added, “We have a tremendous amount of development work underway looking at product innovations we can bring across all cabins of the aircraft. A clear pain point for economy travellers on long-haul flights is the inability to stretch out. The development of the Economy Skynest is a direct response to that challenge.” As a matter of fact, on February 26, the Auckland-based airline filed trademark and patent applications for full-length flatbeds in the economy class named the ‘Economy Skynest’
