CHRIST (Deemed to be University) emerged from the educational vision of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, a notable educationist and social reformer of the nineteenth century in South India. In 1831, he established the first Catholic indigenous congregation, the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI), which now administers CHRIST.

About the Essay Competition

The 1st SLCU Essay Writing Competition 2025 is a national-level initiative aimed at encouraging critical thought and academic engagement on recent and emerging developments in corporate law. This event seeks to provide a platform for law students, researchers, and practitioners to express their perspectives through scholarly writing and interactive discussion.

  • Legal Frameworks for Startups and MSMEs: Fostering Innovation While Ensuring Regulatory Accountability.
  • Cross-Border Mergers and Takeovers: Navigating Regulatory Complexities and Investor Protection.
  • Insider Trading and Market Abuse: Contemporary Legal Framework and Enforcement.

Eligibility

All students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in law, i.e. three-year LL.B./five-year LL.B. or a post-graduate course from any law school /university /college recognised by the Bar Council of India, are eligible to participate in the Competition.

Submission Guidelines

  • Submission shall be made only in MS Word format (.doc/.docx). PDF form shall not be accepted.
  • Formatting Guidelines:
    • Font and Size of Main Text and Footnote: Times New Roman, 12 Point for main text, and Times New Roman, 10 Point for footnotes.
    • Size and Alignment: A4 Size with 1 Inch Margin; all text except headings should be justified.
    • Footnoting: The participant has to adopt a uniform style of citation throughout the document.
    • Spacing: Submission should be 1.5-spaced (except footnotes, which should be single- spaced).
    • Word Limit: The Word limit of the submission is 2500 – 3500 words (excluding footnotes).
    • Plagiarism: Any submission that is found to be plagiarized beyond 10% shall be disqualified from the competition.
    • Anonymity: Participant shall not include his/her name in the submission’s text in any form.
    • Co-Authorship: Co-authorship, up to two authors, is allowed.
    • The use of AI is strictly prohibited; if found, the submission will be disqualified.

Fees

  • Single Author – Rs. 300
  • Co-Author – Rs. 500

Judging Criteria

  • Originality and Innovation (30%)
  • Clarity of Argument and Structure (25%)
  • Legal Research and Depth of Analysis (25%)
  • Relevance to the Theme and Contemporary Importance (20%)

Important dates

  • Last Date for Registration: 15 November 2025
  • Last Date for Submission: 15 November 2025
  • Results Announcement: 10 December 2025 (tentative)

Awards

  • Winner: Rs. 7000 & Certificate of Merit + Internship
  • Second Runner: Rs. 5000 & Certificate of Merit + Internship
  • Third Runner: Rs. 3000 & Certificate of Merit + Internship
    ** Conference Committee will initially connect CrestLaw Partners, Bangalore and the winners, post which they will have to coordinate amongst themselves to schedule the dates and other details of the internship.
    *** Neither Conference Committee nor SLCU can be held responsible for the performance or behaviour of the winners during the course of their internship.
  • Top 10 Entries: Certificate of Merit
  • Certificate of Participation will be awarded to all the participants.
