The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended Justice Sujoy Paul for elevation as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court. Currently serving as Acting Chief Justice since September 2025, his appointment formalises leadership continuity at one of India’s oldest high courts.

Justice Sujoy Paul, a seasoned jurist, has navigated multiple transfers in recent years. Initially elevated as a judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2011, he became a permanent judge in 2014. Following a transfer to the Telangana High Court in 2024, he served as Acting Chief Justice there before moving to the Calcutta High Court in July 2025. Since September 2025, he has overseen administrative and judicial functions as Acting Chief Justice. Over three decades, Justice Paul has developed expertise across civil, constitutional, industrial, and service law, bringing extensive judicial experience to the leadership of the Calcutta High Court.
