The National Green Tribunal will launch an e-court website on Wednesday where applicants can file a petition online from any state of the country to be heard by the court in Delhi. The matter can be heard by the principal bench as well as the regional benches. The website will be inaugurated by National Green Tribunal chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, an official said.

The National Green Tribunal said the website will reduce the inconvenience caused by travelling for cases from other states to Delhi & the cost to file a petition in the tribunal too. In many cases, the counsel would have to come to the court to submit reports but this too can be done online now.

“Any petition can also be filed online on the tribunal’s portal under the National Green Tribunal Act, 2010... Such e-filing need not be from the place where the seat of the bench is located & can be from any place at the convenience of the aggrieved party. The matter will be dealt with by the bench concerned,” said the National Green Tribunal on Tuesday.

Any reports to be submitted by a counsel can also be filed online, with only the cost of printing of pages to be charged. “When a response or report is sought from any party, it can be filed online on the National Green Tribunal portal. If hard copies aren't filed, printing cost of Rs 100 upto 25 pages will be payable,” said an official. The fee can be paid online with the Bharat Kosh & the receipt added with the petition filed online, the official added.

tribunal clarified that even when a party doesn't appear in person or through its counsel, the National Green Tribunal may proceed on its merit.
