The newly appointed Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court drew attention when he urged the Judicial Officer to ensure maximum disposal of cases in the coming week (present one) in which the Lok Adalat is set to be held as mark of his felicitation.

Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey took oath on 14th October, 2022 after his transfer as per SC Collegium recommendation on 30th September.

In his interaction with the Judges, the Chief Justice discussed the issue of pendency of cases and how huge a challenge it mounts. The CJ mentioned the statistics with respect to the two Union Territories on National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) which showed a surge in pendency of cases.

He emphasized that disposal of cases in bulk amount will not remove the burden of the Court but will also bring relief to the litigants,.

The Jammu and Kashmir Legal Service Authority and Ladakh Legal Service Authority has been organizing a Special Lok Adalat, scheduled to be on October 21st 2022 across the two Union Territories.

The Chief Justice has called for promotion of ADR Mechanism, esepcially Lok Adalat and has asked the Judicial Officers and specifically Secretaries of District Legal Services Authorities to educate masses on the importance and benefits of the same.
