An LLM student of Chanakya National Law University (CNLU), Patna, died by suicide on February 24, 2026, inside the Rajendra Prasad Boys’ Hostel, prompting an ongoing police and forensic investigation. The incident, reported during the university’s mid-semester examination cycle for the five year LL.B. programme, has sent shockwaves through the campus community and led to immediate rescheduling of exams.

The tragedy unfolded on Tuesday afternoon, with initial information suggesting personal reasons behind the extreme step. Authorities have begun standard investigative procedures, and further details are awaited pending forensic findings.

The incident occurred at a time when students were in the midst of examinations, intensifying concern and distress across batches. In response, the university administration convened a condolence meeting attended by faculty members and students, where Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Faizan Mustafa addressed the gathering and interacted with the deceased student’s peers.

During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor acknowledged the emotional toll of the incident and stressed the need for greater engagement on psychological well-being within academic spaces, discussing “mental health problems and the need for more talks among students.” As an immediate administrative measure, the university deferred the mid-semester examinations scheduled for February 25.

Exams for fourth and fifth-year students have been rescheduled to February 28 and 27 respectively, while those for first, second, and third-year students will now be conducted on March 9.
