Justice Anupinder Singh Grewal has been appointed as the President of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), which adjudicates corporate and insolvency disputes in the country.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet cleared the appointment. Justice Grewal served as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court and retired in March 2026 on reaching the age of superannuation.
Under the terms of appointment, he will hold office for five years from the date he assumes charge or until he reaches 67 years of age, whichever is earlier. He takes over from Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar, who previously headed the tribunal. The NCLT is constituted under the Companies Act, 2013 and acts as the adjudicating authority for corporate insolvency proceedings under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016.
