Recently, the Karnataka High Court  recorded the Bar Council of India’s (BCI) decision to extend the validity of All India Bar Examination (AIBE) results until March 21, 2026, while disposing of a writ petition filed by two law graduates over delays in their enrolment as advocates.

The Petitioners, S. Gowri Shankar and Vijay Chander T., had approached the Court seeking directions to the Karnataka State Bar Council (KSBC) to process their applications without additional preconditions and to protect them from the expiry of their AIBE validity. During the hearing, the KSBC assured that all pending applications would be processed before the new validity date, provided the students submit all required documents.

The Court noted that the BCI’s extension “takes into consideration the problems which would be caused to students who have passed the AIBE results” and provides sufficient time for enrolment formalities. Issues relating to the Rs. 2,500 document verification fee were not addressed, as the matter is pending before the Supreme Court.

The petition was disposed of in light of the BCI’s extension and the KSBC’s assurance. The AIBE-XX is scheduled for November 30, 2025.
