The Central Government approved the appointment of Justice P.B. Bajanthri as the next Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, marking a significant development in the judiciary. The announcement was made by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on social media platform X, following the recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium on September 11.
Justice Bajanthri is presently serving as the Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, succeeding Justice Vipul Pancholi, who was elevated to the Supreme Court of India. He enrolled as an advocate in 1990 and has an extensive practice history before the High Court of Karnataka and various tribunals. During 1993–94, he also served as standing counsel for the Karnataka Public Service Commission.
Justice Bajanthri’s judicial journey began with his appointment as an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court on January 1, 2015. Shortly thereafter, he was transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court, taking oath as a judge on March 16, 2015. On November 17, 2018, he was repatriated to the Karnataka High Court before being transferred to the Patna High Court on October 20, 2021, where he continues to serve.
The approval of Justice Bajanthri’s appointment ensures continuity in the leadership of the Patna High Court and reflects the Supreme Court Collegium’s confidence in his judicial capabilities. His diverse experience across multiple high courts and tribunals positions him to provide steady guidance and leadership in the Patna High Court.
