About the Competition

The Centre for Business Laws (CBL), NUSRL is delighted to announce the Essay Writing Competition 2025 for UG, PG, and Ph.D. students. NUSRL invite undergraduate and postgraduate students from all recognised universities to participate.

Theme & Sub themes

Theme: Contemporary Developments in Corporate and Commercial Law Indicative sub-themes (authors are free to explore any related topic of contemporary relevance):

  • Mergers & Acquisitions
  • Private Equity and Venture Capital
  • Global Competition Law and Antitrust Regimes
  • Cross-Border Insolvency and Restructuring
  • International Capital Markets
  • International Banking and Finance Laws
  • Cross-Border Investment and Trade Laws
  • Cross-Border Commercial Dispute Resolution
  • ESG Compliance in Corporate Law

Submission Guidelines

  • Word limit: 1500–2000 words (excluding footnotes).
  • Co-authorship: Maximum of two (2) authors.
  • Originality: Essays must be original, unpublished, non-plagiarised and not under simultaneous consideration for publication elsewhere. Similarity must be less than 15%.
  • Formatting (main body): Times New Roman, 12 pt; line spacing 1.5; justified alignment.
  • Footnotes: OSCOLA (4th edition) strictly; Times New Roman, 10 pt; line spacing 1.0. No endnotes or descriptive footnotes permitted.
  • AI: The Journal maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards the use of Artificial Intelligence in manuscript preparation.
  • Copyright: Copyright of essays selected for publication shall vest with CBL, NUSRL.
  • File formats: Submit both PDF and editable DOCX as required during submission.
  • Declaration: Participants must comply with the originality declaration process communicated at registration.

  • Single Author: ₹250
  • Co-authorship (max 2): ₹400

Deadline

Registration Deadline: 05 January 2026, 11:59 PM

Prizes

  • Winner: ₹5,000 + Certificate of Merit
  • First Runner-Up: ₹3,000 + Certificate of Merit
  • Second Runner-Up: ₹2,000 + Certificate of Merit
  • All participants will receive a Certificate of Participation.
