The university was also re-accredited by NAAC at “A+” level, Status of the university for the potential for excellence by UGC, Delhi.
The department of Law was established in the year 1965 in order to cater to the growing demand of post-graduate legal education in the country under the stewardship of Prof. Dr. S.K Agarwala.
The inclusive approach mooted by our thinkers believed in, ‘entire world rests on dharma’. On other hand references to Rawls leads us to understand Justice as ‘fairness, creation of standard theory against which actual policy practices can be verified, principles for establishing just institutions in society, equal liberty for all, fair equality of opportunity and benefit of least advantaged, etc. The nature of these principles is of universal relevance’. There is no doubt that in the present context it is quintessential to deliberate and discuss the role of Law in creating ‘just, fair and justice’ oriented society irrespective of political borders, economic tussles and narrow regional interests.
We are surrounded by rising tendencies of nationalism, protectionism, privatisation in almost every sphere of economy, divergent state approaches to ethical-legal issues in emerging areas (like Data Privacy, Artificial Intelligence, etc.), increasing cost of access to justice etc. are posing serious challenge to very concept of ‘Law and Justice’.
Thus in the light of Globalisation and its pervasive effects on fundamental concepts of law, creation of strong positive law, functional approach of legal institutions and evolution in approach to right-duty aspect of both legitimate government and people at receiving end, etc are immensely relevant areas of legal discourse, which this Seminar attempts to focus under comprehensive as well as inclusive title, ‘Law and Justice in Globalised World: Multidimensional Perspectives’.
