No. G.S.R. 66/C.A. 8/23/Section 32 Amendment/81. - With reference to Punjab Government, Department of Labour and Employment Notification No. G.S.R. 2/C.A. 8/23/S. 32/Amd/81, dated the 1st January, 1981, and in exercise of the powers conferred by section 32 of the Workmen's Compensation Act, 1923 (Central Act No. VIII of 1923) and all other powers enabling him in this behalf, the Governor of Punjab is pleased to make the following rules further to amend the Workmen's Compensation Rules, 1924 in their application to the State of Punjab, namely :-

1. These rules may be called the Workmen's Compensation (Amendment) Rules, 1981.
2. In the Workmen's Compensation Rules, 1924, for rule 31, the following rule shall be substituted, namely :-

"31. Special Provision relating to trial and disposal of application under the Act. - (1) The trial of an application under the Act shall, so far as is practicable consistently with the interests of justice in respect of the trial, be continued from day to day until its conclusion unless the Commissioner finds the adjournment of the trial beyond the following day to be necessary for reasons to be recorded.

(2) Every application under the Act shall be tried as expeditiously as possible and endeavour shall be made to conclude the trial within six months from the date of service of notice of the application on the opposite party".
