| Statement of Objects and Reasons of the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction (Amendment) Act (21 of 1957). - Section 13 of the East Punjab Urban Rent Restriction Act, 1949, which relates to the eviction of tenants, does not provide for the ejectment of a tenant who is an employee of the landlord occupying the building as an employee, on his ceasing to be in such employment. Such a tenant can be a source of trouble and inconvenience to the employer, if he does not vacate the premises after his removal from service. The amendment proposed in the Bill is designed to meet this difficulty and to safeguard the legitimate interests of the landlord.
