Bill would bring 2,000 odd Surrogacy clinics under its purview.

Today, the Union Cabinet  which is chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval to Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016.

The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016 would regulate surrogacy in India by establishment of  National Surrogacy Board at the Central Level and also at State Surrogacy Boards and other Appropriate Authorities in States and Union Territories.

The Legislation will further ensure effective regulation of the surrogacy, prohibition of commercial surrogacy and allowing ethical surrogacy to the needy infertile couples.

All infertile Indian married couple who would want to avail ethical surrogacy would be benefited by the Legislation.  Rights of the surrogate mothers and children born out of surrogacy would be protected by the Legislation.

The Bill will apply to the whole of India, except the State of Jammu and Kashmir.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj stated that the Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2016 would bring 2,000 odd surrogacy clinics under its purview.
