The Supreme Court Collegium has revised its earlier recommendation concerning the transfer of Justice Atul Sreedharan. Following a reconsideration sought by the Central Government, the Collegium, in its meeting held on October 14, 2025, resolved to transfer Justice Sreedharan from the Madhya Pradesh High Court to the Allahabad High Court.
The Collegium had initially proposed his transfer to the Chhattisgarh High Court. However, after reviewing the Government’s request, it decided to modify that recommendation and instead direct his posting to the Allahabad High Court. The resolution notes the change “upon reconsideration” while affirming the necessity of the transfer in the interest of judicial administration.
Justice Atul Sreedharan was appointed to the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2016. In 2023, he was transferred to the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh at his own request, citing personal reasons related to his daughter’s legal practice in Madhya Pradesh. He was subsequently repatriated to the Madhya Pradesh High Court in March 2025.
The revised recommendation will now await formal notification from the Ministry of Law and Justice.
