The Supreme Court collegium has reaffirmed its decision to transfer Justice Yashwant Varma from the Delhi High Court to his parent court, the Allahabad High Court. Following this development, the Allahabad High Court Bar Association declared an indefinite strike commencing from March 25 in protest against the transfer.

Anil Tiwari, President of the Allahabad High Court Bar Association, stated that lawyers affiliated with the association would refrain from judicial work starting Tuesday. He further mentioned that a formal appeal would be sent to the Bar Associations in Lucknow, urging them to join the protest.

Justice Varma has been under scrutiny after a significant amount of cash was allegedly found at his official residence in Delhi during a fire-related incident. He was not present at the time of the discovery. The Bar Association strongly opposed his transfer, asserting that he should not be assigned to any bench within the Allahabad High Court or any other jurisdiction.

In a resolution passed by the association, it was demanded that all judgments delivered by Justice Varma, both in the Allahabad High Court and the Delhi High Court, be reviewed to uphold public trust in the judiciary.

Justice Varma has denied any wrongdoing, claiming that he is being targeted as part of a conspiracy intended to tarnish his reputation. In response to queries from Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, conveyed through Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, he asserted that neither he nor his family had any knowledge of the funds discovered at his residence.
