Republic TV editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami withdrew his anticipatory bail appeal submitted before Mumbai's Sessions Court. Goswami had sought the relief in connection with a case registered by the city Police for allegedly resisting arrest & obstructing public servants from their official duty on Nov 4.

The petition was “simply withdrawn” & no grounds were cited by the defence. His wife, too, has withdrawn her pre-arrest bail plea.

Last month, the N M Joshi Marg police station in Mumbai had registered an FIR against Goswami, his wife, son & 2 others for allegedly assaulting police officials & trying to obstruct them when they reached his house in Lower Parel to arrest him in a 2018 case.

An Alibaug police team had arrested Goswami in connection with a case of alleged 2018 abetment of suicide of Anvay Naik an interior designer who had worked on his TV studio. He was subsequently released on bail in that case.

The police booked him & his wife under Section 353 of Indian Penal Code (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharging duty), Section 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace & 506 (criminal intimidation) & under Damage to Public Property Act.
