“You can’t even imagine the trauma parents go through" High Court exclaims.
On Friday, Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal urged a self proclaimed 'spiritual organisation' to “Let daughters meet their parents" and noting that today is Gurupurnima she said that mother and father are the first guru of a child.
The organisation named Aadhyatmik Vishwa Vidhyalya which claims itself to be a “spiritual family” had earlier submitted that only spiritual education is imparted by them relating to matters of the spirit (atma) to its inmates.
The bench comprising of ACJ Gita Mittal and Justice C. Hari Shankar were intrigued as to "how can the girls refuse to meet their own parents? What are you teaching them?”
“During initial years of your life, Parents feed you, carry you to the toilet, stay awake to make you sleep. Teach those women to respect human beings and most importantly their mother and father” Hon’ble Ms. Justice said.
The bench scorned, “You call yourself a spiritual organisation, and bring 50 women (to court in previous hearing) who disrespect their own parents! Who refused to even look at their parents' face when they came!”
“There may be some medical or psychological problem,” ACJ Mittal observed.
Justice C. Hari Shankar questioned “You leave your family, parents and then call it Spiritual Awakening!? To disrespect parents is what you call Charity!?"
Justice Gita Mittal said, “You can’t even imagine the trauma parents go through when their adult daughter runs away without informing them and they have no idea where she is. What answer will they give to their relatives and neighbours?”
The bench furiously stated that "Even Criminals are not treated the way these parents are being treated. We make sure that even criminals get to meet their family."
The bench stated, "We have very good mediation centres at High Court. We can request our mediators to help out, so that at least they can sit together and have a cup of tea with their parents."
The High Court directed to permit Delhi Commission for Women Chief Swati Malliwal to teach girls and educate them on various issues including menstrual hygiene, since the Court was informed that Sanitary napkins are not being provided to them and they are still using cloth pieces.
The High Court bench further directed to nominate experts to visit the inmates.
