The Allahabad High Court has directed the state government of Uttar Pradesh and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to file its response to answer a Public Interest Litigation seeking minimum cutting of trees during development activities being carried out in the State's capital and nearby cities.

The present Public Interest Litigation has filed by Ayush Kumar Srivastava and 9 others (who are law students). It has stated before the court that for development in the city of Prayagraj and nearby areas, trees coming in the way of widening of road and development of area are being cut.

The Division Bench comprised of Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Saurabh Shyam Shamshery while granting the time period as prayed by the State Government of UP, has directed the the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to file counter affidavit with in two week.

Learned counsel for National Highway Authority of India may also file its counter before the next date of listing.” Ordered by the court.

It has also submitted by the counsel on behalf of state that before having a complete plan for plantation of trees as per the norms applicable to compensate the trees, which are to be unplanted, no permission shall be granted to National Highway Authority of India to execute the project.

The counsel has prayed to court to grant some time to file a counter to the petition as because no plan has been received by the State Government so far. The court has listed the present matter on 3rf February for next hearing.
