On Saturday, the CJI Surya Kant was at the centre of a brief administrative alert in Agra after authorities received information that the chartered aircraft carrying him might be required to make an emergency landing due to adverse weather conditions. The situation, however, was resolved swiftly after weather clearance was received.

Justice Surya Kant was travelling by a chartered aircraft to Saifai airport in Etawah district, where he was scheduled to attend the 33rd Saraswat ceremony organised by the Etawah Hindi Seva Nidhi, an institution engaged in promoting Hindi language and literature.

The aircraft was originally expected to land at Saifai around 11:30 am. During the journey, officials in Agra were informed that weather conditions near Etawah had worsened, creating the possibility that the aircraft could be diverted for an emergency landing at Kheria Airport in Agra.

Based on the information received, the district administration and police were alerted that the aircraft might be forced to land at Agra due to safety concerns arising from poor weather conditions at the destination airport. In response, senior administrative and police officials immediately proceeded to Kheria Airport to ensure preparedness and security arrangements, considering the constitutional office held by the passenger on board.

While the officials remained on standby at Kheria Airport, the district administration received an update from the Meteorological Department around noon confirming improvement in weather conditions at Saifai. Following this, clearance was granted for the aircraft to continue its journey as originally planned.

The aircraft remained at Kheria Airport briefly during this period of uncertainty, with officials maintaining full readiness until final confirmation was received. At around 1:00 pm, after receiving final clearance, the Chief Justice proceeded safely to Saifai airport. Officials deployed at Kheria Airport subsequently returned to their respective duties.

The Chief Justice later reached Etawah and attended the ceremony, where he honoured contributors to Hindi literature for their role in promoting the language. The incident highlighted the swift coordination and preparedness of the civil and police administration in ensuring the safety of constitutional authorities.
