In a strong show of unity, the coordination committee of all Delhi district bar associations on Tuesday demanded that the government withdraw the Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s recent notification within 48 hours. The order allows Delhi Police to present evidence in Court cases through video conferencing directly from police stations.
According to a statement issued by Tarun Rana, Additional Secretary General of the committee, the bar leaders unanimously resolved to formally submit a representation to the relevant authorities urging the withdrawal of the notification within the stipulated time.
The committee described the order as being detrimental to lawyers, the judicial process, and the public interest, warning that it “would paralyse the trial process and obstruct the fair and timely delivery of justice". The release emphasized that if the government fails to rescind the directive, all bar associations in Delhi are prepared to take strong measures, including street protests and other forms of agitation, to oppose the move.
