On Monday, the Chairperson to Supreme Court e-Committee, Justice DY Chandrachud informed that the Supreme Court shall shortly join the National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG).

The remarks came during hearing of a matter wherein the Court was dealing with an issue of delay in tax litigation. Informing Additional Solicitor General Balbir Singh, Justice Chandrachud said:

"We have already got now a module of Supreme Court Judicial Data Grid, that is all ready and I was looking at it over the weekend and very shortly there will also be a link on National Judicial Data Grid so that Supreme Court will also be on National Judicial Data Grid,"

National Judicial Data Grid (NJDG) has the statistics relating to pendency and arrears in the courts across India. While it has data from trial courts and certain High Courts, the Supreme Court joining shall make it more comprehensive.

In the previous course of hearing in the same matter, the Court has suggested a monitoring mechanism to track revenue litigaiton by integrating the data with the e-courts system.
