ORDER: (Per the Hon'ble the Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma)

           The present Public Interest Litigation (PIL) is arising out of

a news item published in 'The New Indian Express', Hyderabad

Edition dated 29.11.2021, relating to death of two sanitation

workers, which took place, on 28.11.2021, while cleaning a septic

tank at Kondapur, Hyderabad, which was brought to the notice of

this Court by the Hon'ble Sri Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, Judge, High

Court for the State of Telangana,.

           Notices were` issued in the matter and the respondents were

directed to ensure compliance of the Prohibition of Employment

as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act, 2013 (for short

'the Act') as well as the judgment delivered by the Hon'ble

Supreme Court in the case of Safai Karmachari Andolan v.

Union of India1.

Learned Standing Counsel for respondent No.5/HMWSSB

stated that respondents have already paid a compensation of Rs.10

(2014) 11 SCC 224 ::2::

lakhs to the family members of the deceased and the family

members have also been appointed as regular staff in the services

of respondent No.5/HMWSSB on Class-IV posts on 04.04.2022.

In the light of the aforesaid, nothing survives in the present

PIL. However, it is made clear that respondent No.5/HMWSSB

shall ensure strict compliance of the statutory provisions as

contained under the Act as well as the directions issued by the

Hon'ble Supreme Court in Safai Karmachari Andolan (cited

supra).

With the aforesaid, the WP (PIL) stands disposed of. No

costs.

As a sequel, miscellaneous petitions, pending if any, stand

closed.
