COMMON ORDER
The present writ petitions have been filed challenging the order dated
24.02.2026 passed by the Sub Inspector of Police, Karaiyar Police Station,
Karaiyar, Pudukkottai District with a further direction to grant permission to
conduct annual consecration festival (Varudabishegam) from 21.03.2026 to
28.03.2026 at Arulmigu Sree Dhamothara Ganapathy Temple at
Murandampatti, Ponnamaravthi Taluk, Pudukottai District and seeking for the
police protection for the same.
2. The application submitted by the petitioners seeking the aforesaid
relief was strongly rejected by the respondent police, apprehending a possible
breach of law and order in the event of the festival being conducted on the same
dates. Aggrieved by the same, the present writ petitions have been filed.
3. When the matter came up for hearing, the learned counsel appearing
for the parties in unison submitted that they have no objection with any person

participating in the temple festivals. However, the parties are insisting the first
honour during the temple festival.
4. Considering the facts and circumstances of this case, the order dated
24.02.2026 passed by the Sub Inspector of Police, Karaiyar Police Station,
Karaiyar, Pudukkottai District is hereby quashed. Both the petitioners are
directed to cooperate with each other to conduct the aforesaid temple festival at
Arulmigu Sree Dhamothara Ganapathy Temple at Murandampatti,
Ponnamaravthi Taluk, Pudukottai District, from 21.03.2026 to 28.03.2026.
5. With the above direction, the writ petitions are allowed. The second
respondent police is directed to afford necessary police protection on payment
of necessary charges by both the petitioners in terms of GO.Ms.No.139, Home
(Pol-VIII) Department, dated 04.03.2019. It is made clear that none of the
petitioners should claim any first honour. Consequently, connected
miscellaneous petition is closed.
