About the Seminar

India, with its vast and diverse population, faces significant challenges in providing accessible and quality healthcare to its citizens. One of the Constitutional aspirations of the founding fathers were protection of health of the public. The Concurrent list of the constitution supports in making Laws relating to Public Health. The public health system at the grassroot level plays a crucial role in addressing these challenges.

This seminar would focus on examining the operational aspects of public health system in India especially at the grassroot level with a specific emphasis on the regulatory and policy frameworks that govern them. It will provide an overview of the role and significance of Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in the healthcare system by highlighting the importance of PHCs as the first point of contact for primary healthcare services.

Primary Health Centres being the first physical point of contact between patient and the doctor, therefore OPD (Out-Patient Department) services play important role towards the preliminary diagnosis, as well the further referral to the higher level of health facilities, wherever required. So, the seminar will be analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of the current PHC’s working model.

Besides, it examines the regulatory mechanisms in place for governing PHCs by discussing the roles of various regulatory bodies and agencies involved in monitoring PHC’s operations. It will explore the healthcare policies at the national level as well as the state level that impact PHCs by identifying common challenges faced by PHCs, such as resource constraints, staffing issues, and infrastructure limitations.

The government’s commitment towards achieving universal health coverage and addressing the unique healthcare needs of diverse communities is evident in the various initiatives and programs.
