About the Journal

The Indian Journal of Legal Theory (“IJLT”) is peer-reviewed, open access, an annual, student-run journal which is published by the Centre for Legal Theory under the auspices of National Law University, Jodhpur. It is one of its kind journal in India, devoted to the study of legal theory, legal philosophy and jurisprudence.

Themes and Sub-Themes

NLUJ invites authors to contribute articles, essays and research papers on the given themes for the IJLT, Vol 2 (2020). Authors are free to submit a paper that’s a combination of themes given below. The broad themes on which submission are invited are:

Morality: Jurisprudential understanding of morality vis-à-vis its construction by Indian judiciary, specifically, for instance, in the context of ‘public morality’. Concept of ‘dharma’, readings of Indian jurists to understand law and morality can also be explored.
Consent and/or free choice: Conception of consent, especially, in the context of government actions. The conception of free choice, especially in relation to one’s own body.
Rights: Understanding of the concept of rights, especially in relation to specific ‘persons’, ‘properties’. The conception of rights by Ronald Dworkin, for instance, in relation to the current status of minorities.
Justice: What is ‘just’; analysis of social welfare legislation on the pedestal of any jurist’s definition of justice, for instance, from the viewpoint of John Rawls’ theory of justice.
Patriarchy and gender roles; Feminist jurisprudence: Opinion on whether the concept of patriarchy basically goes against the tenets of morality? Critical analysis of the growth of feminist jurisprudence, especially in light of the #MeToo movement.
Positivism in the current era: whether Positivism as a branch of jurisprudence holds any relevance in current times, this could be shown through legislations as well.
Privacy: Jurisprudence of the privacy law, specifically in the Indian context.

Submission Registration and Application Details

Submissions can be solely authored or co-authored. For co-authorship, a maximum of two co-authors are permitted. The author/s can make submissions under the following heads:

Scholarly articles and Research Papers (5000-8000 words, inclusive of footnotes).

Short Articles and Essays (3000 -5000 words, inclusive of footnotes).

The deadline for submission of abstracts is December 25, 2019. The intimation of the selection of the abstract would be provided by January 10, 2020. The deadline for submission of the complete manuscript is February 28, 2020. Submissions are to be made only in electronic form here.

The article should contain a disclaimer stating that the submitted paper is original and is not been published or under consideration for publication elsewhere.

Format: The font preferred is Times New Roman, size 12 points, line spacing 1.5 for the main text and Times New Roman, size 10 points, line spacing 1 for footnotes. The line spacing between the main text shall be 1.5. All citations shall be placed in footnotes and shall be in accordance with the Bluebook: A Uniform System of Citation, 20th Edition.

Guidelines for Review: All submissions will go through an initial round of review by the editorial board and the selected pieces will subsequently be sent for peer review before finalization for publication.
