About the University

Jamia Hamdard was inaugurated by Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi on August 01, 1989. In his impressive speech, the Prime Minister lauded the efforts of Hakeem Abdul Hameed in setting up institutions of learning which were emerging in the form of a “Deemed to be University”.

Jamia Hamdard was conceived as a seat of higher learning in Unani Medicine, Islamic Studies, Biosciences, Pharmacy, Nursing and other areas of knowledge by its founder as a means of fulfilling the objects of the wakf. Over a period of last ten years, Jamia Hamdard has emerged as an outstanding institution of higher learning with distinct and focused academic programmes.

Graduate programme in Law, Information Technology & Computer Applications and Post-graduate programmes in Law, Information Technology, Computer Applications, Business Management, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy have been started in the last few years.

About the Department

HILSR, established in 2018 with the approval of the Bar Council of India (BCI), offers a comprehensive five-year integrated B.A. LL.B. program designed to provide students with a strong foundation in legal education.

Building on this foundation, HILSR introduced new academic programs in the 2022-2023 session, including LL.M. degrees with specializations in Constitutional Law and Commercial Law, as well as a Ph.D. program in Law. These additions reflect the institution’s commitment to broadening its academic horizons and providing advanced legal education.

Since its inception, HILSR has made remarkable progress, thanks to a faculty composed of distinguished professionals with diverse knowledge and experience from some of the most renowned institutions. The faculty’s expertise ensures that students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for the complexities of the legal profession.

Details about the Event

HILSR Law Review (HILSR L. Rev.) is an annual peer-reviewed e-journal of Hamdard Institute of Legal Studies & Research, School of Law, Jamia Hamdard (Deemed to be University). Launching its inaugural volume, the HILSR L. Rev. aims to provide an e-platform for legal scholars, practitioners, and students to publish high-quality legal research and foster intellectual discourse within the field of law. The HILSR Law Review is affiliated with HILSR, School of Law, Jamia Hamdard.

HILSR is thrilled to announce the launch of the First Volume of the “HILSR Law Review” (Annual Peer Reviewed E-Journal). This publication aims to bring together insightful and innovative research on a wide range of legal issues. We invite legal professionals, scholars, and students to contribute their expertise and become part of our inaugural edition.

Eligibility

This initiative aims to provide an e-platform for legal scholars, practitioners, and students to publish high-quality legal research and foster intellectual discourse within the field of law.

Submissions for paper is online. Papers can be mailed to the Managing Editor, HILSR Law Review – hilsr.lawreview@jamiahamdard.ac.in

Registration Procedure

HILSR Law Review prefers submissions with the following length limits (including all text, footnotes and appendices).

  • Long Article (6000-8000 words): In this category of submissions, the journal expects a detailed analysis of the issue(s) undertaken by the author, to the extent of a detailed analysis of the surrounding legal scenario at domestic and international levels and/or cross-jurisdictional analysis, and concrete conclusions and suggestions (through a reform-oriented research methodology), indicating a specific way forward.
  • Short Article (4000-6000 words): In this category of submissions, the journal expects analysis of contemporary legal issues from single or multiple legal perspectives, i.e., a detailed examination of legal developments and/or happenings using single or multiple legal perspectives as (a) basis. In this category, if at all an author attempts to analyse debatable issues, i.e., issues that could be addressed through two perspectives of being justified or not justified, authors are encouraged to employ multilateral perspectives for the purposes of analysis, and then provide a conclusion in furtherance of such analysis.
  • Commentary (1500-3000 words): A comment allows the author to critique any recent/landmark judicial pronouncement, legislation or a pending bill. The focus of a comment should be on a relatively recent pronouncement or legislation. If a comment is on a judgment, it shall be called a ‘Case Comment’. If a comment pertains to a Recent Legislation/Pending Bill, it shall be called as a ‘Legislative Brief’.
  • Book Review (1500 words): In this category of submissions, a critical review may be undertaken of a book-related to trade law and allied fields, including the issues explored and related arguments of the author.
  • All submissions are required to be addressed to the Managing Editor, HILSR L. Rev. and emailed to hilsr.lawreview@jamiahamdard.ac.in.
  • All submissions must be sent with a covering letter indicating the Name of the Author(s), Institutional Affiliation, Contact Details and the Title of the paper. Name and designation of the author(s) should not be mentioned in the manuscript submitted by the author(s).
  • All submissions must be accompanied by a 200-word abstract and a minimum of 3 Keywords.
  • All submissions must be accompanied by a List of References/Bibliography appended at the end of the manuscript. (The word count of References/Bibliography shall be excluded from the word limit requirement of paper).
  • HILSR L. Rev. shall allow a maximum of two authors. Co-authored papers should give details about both the authors.
  • The Board shall consider the authorship and designation mentioned in the covering letter during submission as final and correct, unless otherwise intimated by the author(s).
  • It shall be the responsibility of the Author(s) to intimate the Board regarding any change in designation during the period in which the paper is being processed.
  • No changes or revisions in the paper shall be entertained after publication.
  • The Author shall be required to send a duly signed and dated copy of an undertaking in the prescribed format (provided by the Editorial Team) along with the submission.

Fee Details

Publication in HILSR Law Review is free. HILSR Law Review doesn’t charge any processing or publication fee, at any stage of publication.

Deadlines

  • Last date for submission: December 15, 2024 (extended).
  • Review feedback received by: February 21, 2025.
  • Last date to submit revised article (with suggested changes): March 14, 2025.
  • Date of publication: June, 2025 (Tentative)
