About GLC Mumbai

Government Law College enjoys the distinction of being the oldest law school in Asia and has, since its inception in 1855, played a seminal role in the evolution of the legal and judicial landscape of India.

Government Law College, with its illustrious history and a heritage spanning over a century and a half, has nurtured some of the greatest minds of today, not only in the field of law but in various other walks of life. The generations of distinguished legal luminaries nurtured by this unique institution have made a seminal contribution globally, to the evolution of the legal fraternity.

About SPIL Mumbai

In an increasingly integrated world with growing transnational interactions, the significance of International Law has never been greater. We, at SPIL Mumbai, strive towards taking legal studies to an empirical level and promoting law as an area of inquiry and study far beyond the realms of classrooms.

This student-based organization of Government Law College, Mumbai has successfully organized several events, including a lecture on the working of the International Criminal Court by Professor William Burke-White of the University of Pennsylvania, a Model United Nations – Student Exchange Program with students of the School of International Relations, Tehran, and the Government Law College International Law Summit- which is held annually.

SPIL, Mumbai also regularly organizes workshops on the basics of International Law, which have an overwhelming response from law students across colleges and holds various competitions, guest lectures, workshops and publishes an International Law Journal.

About the Journal

The GLC-SPIL International Law Journal (ILJ) is an esteemed annual publication from SPIL Mumbai, dedicated to fostering critical thought and dialogue in the field of international law. It is double-blind, peer-reviewed open access journal crafted to present cutting-edge research, insightful articles, and detailed analyses by prominent scholars, legal professionals, and students alike. Every edition showcases an array of compelling legal issues spanning public international law, transnational commercial law, human rights, environmental law, and more, aiming to illuminate diverse perspectives on global legal challenges.

With a highly-affiliated editorial board, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity and scholarship, ensuring that each article contributes meaningfully to current debates and developments. The GLC SPIL International Law Journal serves not only as a source of knowledge but as a platform where students and professionals can engage, learn, and expand their understanding of the ever-evolving field of International Law.

Student for the Promotion International Law (SPIL), Mumbai, unveiled the GLC-SPIL International Law Journal, Volume IV on 14th September 2024. The Journal featured academic articles, essays and legislative commentaries addressing developments in public and private international law and foreign relations.

The esteemed Editorial Board consisted of Mr. Chandril Chattopadhyay, Ms. Dhriti Kapadia, Ms. Shivani Chimnani, Dr. Sudhir Verma, and Ms. Tanya Vatsa.

The Editorial Board has been instrumental in conducting a meticulous and an extensive editorial process. The success of the Journal also reverberates with the dedication and prowess that have been exhibited by all authors who poured in their notable submissions this year. With the unveiling of the Journal, SPIL, Mumbai hopes to further promote an area of enquiry and study far beyond the realms of classrooms.

  • Last date for registration and submission of the manuscripts : 15th December 2024
  • Acceptance Notification: 21st December 2024
  • Invitation to author (s) of top entries to present their papers during the 15th Government Law College International Law Summit, 2025: February 2025
  • Unveiling of GLC-SPIL International Law Journal Volume V during the 15th Government Law College International Law Summit, 2025: March 2025

Submission Categories

Articles

An Article must comprehensively analyse a specific issue. It must study or evaluate the status quo, indicate any lacunae therein, and suggest potential solutions. It may also employ a comparative, historical or multi-disciplinary approach to strengthen the author’s argument.

An Article must strictly be within 6000 to 10000 word limit, exclusive footnotes and
bibliography.

Essays

Essays are more concise in terms of scope and conceptualisation.

An Essay must strictly be within 4000 to 6000 word limit, exclusive footnotes and bibliography.

Guidelines

General Guidelines

  • The entries are open to all undergraduate and postgraduate students, industry practitioners, academicians and research scholars.
  • Submissions may be authored, by a maximum of 2 authors.
  • Each individual or team, is allowed only one submission.
  • Both co-authored and single submissions will be treated as separate entries. Submissions falling into both categories will be disqualified.
  • Submissions must constitute the original work of the author (s). The plagiarism limit is 10% (excluding footnotes). Any submission beyond the plagiarism limit will be disqualified.
  • Each entry must be the previously unpublished work of the author (s). Manuscripts that have been published elsewhere or selected/submitted for publication elsewhere will be disqualified.
  • NO part of the article should contain any form of identification of the participant, such as the author’s name, university/college name, etc. Inclusion of any form of identification will result in disqualification.
  • All submissions must be written in English.
  • The manuscript must include an abstract, with a maximum limit of 300 words, exclusive of the overall word limit. The abstract should clearly indicate the chosen topic of the manuscript.
  • Citations and footnotes must follow the Harvard Bluebook (20th edition)
  • [LINK] referencing style.
  • Avoid the use of extensive footnotes or quotations. It is acceptable to reference or paraphrase thoughts and ideas from standard works without using quotations, provided proper acknowledgement is given in footnotes or other suitable methods.
  • Before being accepted for publishing in the Journal, every manuscript will undergo a double-blind, peer-review process. Failure to pass the review process will result in the disqualification of the manuscript.

  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font Size: 12
  • Line Spacing: 1.5

Footnotes

  • Font: Times New Roman
  • Font Size: 10
  • Line Spacing: 1.0

Margins

  • All margins should be set to 1 inch or 2.54 cm on all sides.

Note: Manuscripts not following the above formatting guidelines will be disqualified.
