Multi Modal Transport Document Rules, 1994

Published vide G.S.R. 311 (E), dated 9.3.1994, published in the Gazette of India, Ext., Pt.II, Section 3(i), dated 9.4.1994.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 30 of the Multi modal Transportation of Goods Act,1993 (28 of 1993) the Central Government hereby makes the following rules namely:
 

1. Short title and commencement .(1) These rules may be called The Multi modal Transport Document Rules, 1994 .
(2) They shall come into force on the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.

2. Definitions .In these rules, unless the context otherwise requires
(a) Act means the Multi modal Transportation of Goods Act, 1993;

(b) document means the Multi modal Transport Document referred to in section 7 of the Act;

(c) The words and expressions used herein and not defined but defined in the Act shall have the meaning respectively assigned to them in the Act.

3. Contract for Multi modal Transportation .Where the consignor and the Multi modal Transport Operator have entered into a contract for the Multi modal Transportation and the Multi modal Transport Operator has taken charge of the goods, he shall issue a document, a model of which may be prescribed by the competent authority by a Special or General Order, with the approval of the Central Government.
