Kunal Kamra has moved to Delhi High Court to challenge flying ban on him by airlines. He approached the Court against IndiGo which suspended him from flying with the airlines for a period of 6 months after he bothered a TV anchor on their flight on Jan 28. Other airlines (Air India, SpiceJet & Go Air) had also followed the suit in pursuance to this & banned him from using their services.
On Tuesday, the High Court of Delhi gave time to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to seek instructions on travel ban imposed on comedian Kunal Kamra. Justice Naveen Chawla said that the regulatory body shouldn't have certified actions of airlines other than IndiGo to ban Kamra without conducting an inquiry.
He also asked IndiGo why it banned the comedian before receiving any formal complaint.
The Judge asked IndiGo’s lawyer Sandeep Sethi, "Why bar him when complaint comes to you later?"
The matter will now be heard on Feb 27.
Last month, IndiGo had barred the stand-up comedian for 6 months from using its services for allegedly portraying "unacceptable behaviour" onboard its flight.
The airline alleged that Kamra, while travelling on a Mumbai to Lucknow IndiGo flight, provoked a TV news anchor by asking questions over his news presentation style.
