August,23,2016:

There are several complexities and angles to this problem which the court cannot decide judicially, says CJI

Supreme Court on Monday indicated that Judiciary has its limits and a political solution across the party lines might probably bring peace to Kashmir, where life has come to a standstill due to clashes between security forces and mobs.

The Bench led by CJI T.S Thakur said that discussion among the parties will offer more chances to reach well rounded solution.

Jammu and Kashmir Panthers Party, represented by its leader and senior lawyer, Bhim Singh had filed a Writ Petition highlightened the sufferings of the people and seeking judicial intervention. Mr. Bhim Singh stated that the people of Kashmir still continue to live in the shadow of the gun.

‘Not a political platform’

Chief Justice TS Thakur also asked Mr. Bhim Singh why did he not join the Opposition parties in the meeting with the Prime Minister. When Mr. Singh tried to make a political comment against government, the CJI cut him short,by  saying that the court was not a “political platform”.
