In its meeting held on Feb 19, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended the appointment of Senior Advocate Ahanthem Bimol Singh as Manipur High Court Judge. The SC Collegium also approved the elevation of the Registrar General of Tripura High Court, Satyagopal Chottopadhaya, as a Judge of the same High Court.
The Tripura High Court currently has only three judges including Chief Justice AK Qureshi.
The two other judges in the High Court are Justice Subhasish Talapatra and Justice Arindam Lodh.
Justice Lodh was the last to get appointed about one and half years back in the Tripura High Court.
If the two recommendations are cleared by the central government, both the High Courts in two states of Northeast India will function at their maximum sanctioned working strength of 5 and 4 judges.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court collegium in its meeting on February 19 also approved the proposal for elevation of the following Judicial Officers as Judges of the Jammu & Kashmir High Court.
They are – Vinod Chatterji Koul, Sanjay Dhar, and Puneet Gupta.
