CJI Khehar: I feel sad that India Ranks 66th out of 113 Countries on Rule of Law index

 Chief Justice of India JS Khehar expressed deep concern over India's poor ranking in the Rule of Law index.

He appealed on Saturday to all those involved in justice dispensation to make all out efforts to make the judicial redress accessible to all the people, particularly to the poor & neglected.

Justice JS Khehar said govts. should also share responsibility in spreading legal awareness which is currently done by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) & State Legal Services Authorities .

He said that he feels really sad that India's rank is 66th out of 113 countries in 2016 Rule of Law index & we should formulate policies & guidelines to lift India's ranking.

He stressed that we need to take steps to make justice accessible to all,  and most importantly children, women & the historically oppressed sections of society for whom justice is still a dream.

He said "We as judge also have responsibility to ensure that vulnerable and voiceless the aren't denied justice."

Minister of state for law & justice PP Chaudhary suggested that it should be made mandatory for all the lawyers to give legal aid & take up cases of poor who couldn't afford to engage lawyers.

He said that the Government was ready to take up the administrative works of Nalsa to ease its burden.
