The Madhya Pradesh Govt. will bring a bill in state assembly soon to provide 5 per cent reservation in Govt. jobs for sportspersons who bag medals in national and international sports meet said sports minister Jeetu Patwari on Wednesday at a function in Barkatullah University.

"State Govt. is committed to provide 5% reservation in Govt. Jobs to medalists. We will bring a bill in this regard very soon. The draft is being prepared," said Patwari.

Incidentally, the state government provides Govt. Jobs to Vikram awardees every year. Vikram Award is the highest sports awards for players given in the state. Besides, national & international medalists have quota in the state police department.

Reiterating his earlier stand, Patwari said, "Even after winning medals in sports at international & national level, players remain deprived of jobs." He added, "As per the chief minister Kamal Nath recommendations, arrangements for a new sports policy are being made so that sportspersons can get 5% reservation in Govt. jobs."

However, the detailed policy will be drafted to provide government jobs to players. Sources said that a draft of the sports policy is being prepared. In 2018, the then chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan's cabinet had given nod that those who reach the podium in Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games and SAF Games will not be required to appear in entrance tests for police jobs.

Besides, medalists of national games & recognised national championship will be considered for police jobs. Medal winners will be directly appointed as sub-inspectors. National game medal winners will be offered jobs of constables. Every year, 10 SIs & 50 constables will be appointed through the sports quota.

Incidentally, the Congress manifesto for 2018 assembly elections had spelt out the formation of a comprehensive sports policy for the state, where special focus would be on women athletes.

It was announced in the manifesto that those who do not get jobs will be given Rs 15,000 per month honorarium. Athletes who win medals in the Olympics, will be entitled to Rs 51,000 per month.

Besides, sports quota in government jobs will be raised with specific positions for players, the manifesto had promised.
