The Ministry of Law & Justice has issued notification of appointing Justice Gulzar Ahmed as the Chief Justice of Pakistan after approval from President Arif Alvi, media reported on Wednesday.
Justice Gulzar Ahmed will replace Justice Asif Saeed Khosa who will retire on Dec 20. The new chief justice will assume charge on Dec 21.
Justice Gulzar will be the 27th Chief Justice of Pakistan & his tenure will end on Feb 1, 2022. The new chief justice was born in Karachi in 1957 & pursued his career in Law. After becoming a lawyer, Justice Gulzar started practicing in the Sindh High Court in 1986.
In 1988, he elevated to the Top Court as an advocate. Later, he sworn in as the Sindh High Court judge in 1992. He has been serving as the SC Judge since Nov 16, 2011.
Justice Gulzar has been part of benches deciding high-profile cases & had authored many landmark judgments.
Justice Gulzar was part of the bench which heard the famous Panama case & disqualified the ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif in a historic judgment.
