Delhi High Court Orders Removal of Fraudulent Websites and Apps Exploiting IKEA Trademarks

In a recent case, the Delhi High Court has taken a firm stance against fraudulent activities exploiting the trademarks of the renowned Swedish retail giant IKEA. According to reports, Justice Sanjeev Narula has issued a crucial order mandating the removal of websites, mobile applications, WhatsApp accounts, groups, and phone numbers that have been utilized to defraud consumers under the guise of IKEA's brand.

Justice Sanjeev Narula's order explicitly prohibits exploiting the IKEA trademark in any form, including domain names, websites, mobile apps, and social media accounts.

The order reads, "Defendants No. 1 and 2 (people cheating common people in the name of IKEA), and all persons acting on their behalf, are restrained from using the Plaintiff's registered 'IKEA' trademarks and their variations...in any infringement."

Furthermore, the bench has requested that detailed information about the individuals behind the fraudulent websites be submitted in a sealed cover. This significant move by the Delhi High Court comes in response to a petition filed by IKEA, highlighting unknown individuals leveraging the company's name and brand to deceive customers, resulting in substantial financial losses.

The petition underscored the alarming use of mobile applications, websites, and WhatsApp groups to lure consumers into investing significant sums of money, promising lucrative returns supposedly from IKEA. These replica platforms, as per the petition, enticed investors with promises of up to 200% returns within 35 days.

After careful consideration, the Court concluded that the defendants had indeed infringed upon IKEA's trademark rights, harming the company's goodwill and reputation.
