The United Nations is an intergovernmental organization aiming to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among nations, achieve international cooperation, and be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations.
The Youth Engagement and Empowerment Programme (YEEP), an innovative initiative of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre (UNCCT), issued its call for applications in South Asia and Southeast Asia to expand its signature Peer-to-Peer (P2P) model and tap into the talent pool of young peacebuilders in the region. Launched in June 2020, the YEEP has engaged and empowered over 263 young men and women in Sudan, Australia and Sweden, enabling young people to contribute meaningfully to the United Nation’s global, regional and national efforts to prevent and counter violent extremism and terrorism.
The programme’s P2P model promotes effective youth engagement by enabling youth to rise as leaders in their own communities, to take ownership of their own initiatives, and to become the programme’s primary implementing partners. The YEEP focuses on maximizing engagement and local partnerships for youth.
The hybrid training course combines self-paced reading, live webinars, exercises, training videos, and ongoing coaching and mentoring from UNCCT Youth Engagement Specialists.
Its aim is to prepare the selected youth as facilitators who would organize and lead their own peer-to-peer workshops. The YEEP offers a comprehensive online training course that consists of the following modules:
The full course involves a 5-week online course, which can potentially culminate in an in-person event (subject to relevant COVID-19 restriction guidelines)
Invited to apply are youth from South Asia and Southeast Asia that meet the following requirements:
Please note YEEP is not necessarily looking for the most experienced applicants, as the programme is seeking to establish a diverse group.
The submitted applications will be assessed to select the best-suited applicants;
The assessment of applications will be primarily based on experience and motivation;
Successful applicants will become the first cohort of young peacebuilders in South Asia and Southeast Asia under the framework of UNCCT’s YEEP.
