Apple "FaceTime" Video calling App blamed for Car crash, family sues Company

A US family who lost their young daughter in a car crash not long ago has now filed a lawsuit against Apple Inc. for their "FaceTime" video calling Application on an alleged plea that it is encouraging distracted driving, said the media reports.

The family of the deceased claimed that even though Apple Inc. had the patent for a safer version of its video calling app "FaceTime", but still it chose to make the less safe version available with its latest iPhone 6.

Petition says that it alone ultimately leading to a car crash and caused the death of Moriah Modisette, their five-year-old daughter, It was reported this week by Courthouse News.

The incident relates back to 2014 when noe deceased Moriah was travelling in the back seat of her parents' car near Dallas and she was hit by another car driven by Garrett Willhelm who was found using the Apple "FaceTime" while driving.

The offending car's driver had confessed to the police that he was on "FaceTime" and police had also found that the app was still on and live when they reached the scene.

The Modisette family blamed Apple for its failure to either design and programme a shutoff into the "FaceTime" while driving or atleast give clear and strong warning about using the app while driving.

Apple had the technology to prevent these events, as it had filed an application with the US Patent Office for a 'driver handheld computing device lock-out, said the family in the complaint.
