May 08, 2019:

Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has hired Richa Roy as a partner in its Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) and policy practice in Mumbai.

The 2005 NLSIU Bangalore graduate had begun her career at ICICI Bank and then joined AZB in 2008 until 2016, leaving the firm as a senior associate.

Between 2010 and 2016 she had also specialised in advising the ministry of finance, RBI and SEBI on a variety of regulations, including the IBC, financial services, foreign investment and other areas.

In 2016, she moved to Oxford University for a masters of public policy, and from 2017 she was a graduate research fellow at Oxford’s Global Economic Governance Programme, specialising in “transparency, democratisation and public participation in the formulation of trade policy with the aim of informing the UK government post Brexit”, and the “political economy of navigating banking standards”, relating to the Basel banking rules in developing countries.

Managing partner Cyril Shroff said that she would strengthen the firm’s IBC practice. “She comes with vast experience and that will help us in expanding the scope of our practice by serving our existing and potential clients even better.”

Roy added: “I have always admired CAM’s values and purpose (in particular the emphasis on producing the finest lawyers for a just world) as well as the depth and breadth of CAM’s finance practice. I am thrilled to be complementing the stellar work of the team and the firm with my background in finance and public policy to reach ever greater heights.”
