On Thursday, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a woman for accepting a bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh to “manage” a Judge of Vadgaon Maval Court. It was after her arrest the ACB officers came to know that she is not an employee of the Court.
The arrested woman has been identified as Shubhawari Bhalchandra Gaikwad (29), a resident of Talegaon.
A man has filed a complaint with ACB regarding the demand from Gaikwad. According to the information shared by ACB officers, Gaikwad was pretending as a stenographer in the Vadgaon Maval Court.
The complainant had taken an agency of Amul milk. He ran the agency for 4 years, but later had dispute with Amul because he suffered loss in the business. The complainant did not return the cooling machine & generator to the company. The company was to get Rs 3.5 lakh from him, therefore it was asking him to return the machines & take away his amount. But the complainant claimed that he suffered loss of Rs 9 lakh & therefore refused to return the equipment.
Last week, Amul filed a private criminal case of robbery against the complainant. The complainant met Gaikwad in the Court. She pretended him as a Court employee. The accused woman further named two Judges & told him that they will help him disposing of the case. On Jan 9, she called him & arranged a conversation with a one person. She told him that the person was also a court employee & will help him in the case. She then demanded Rs 2.5 lakh, which was confirmed by the ACB officers.
After arresting the accused, ACB officials figured out she was not a Court employee.
The ACB officers laid a trap on the premises of Vadgaon Maval Court on Thursday. It was revealed after the trap that she is not a court employee. She even told a false name to the complainant. Her actual name was disclosed after the arrest. She was produced before the Court, which remanded in Police custody till Jan 20.
Deputy superintendent of police (ACB) Smita Mehandale said, “The woman is a just another individual, pretending to be a court employee. We have arrested her but investigation is going on about the involvement of two other people in the case.”
