A court has convicted a 38-year-old homemaker for killing her husband & sentenced her to life imprisonment.

Chandarakala Bhoir, from Khatkariwadi of Khanivali in Wada taluka, was found guilty by district judge P P Jadhav under section 302 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) & fined Rs 5,000. The prosecutor told court the couple was married, with a teenage daughter & Chandrakant Bhoir (35), a farmer, was addicted to alcohol & would often demand money from her.

The accused was reluctant to oblige him, which resulted in frequent quarrels.

She attacked her husband with a sickle at home around 9.40pm on Sept 17, 2016. She was also annoyed as he used to repeatedly beat up their daughter, which is why she took the extreme step, the prosecution told court.

The defence counsel pointed out several lapses the prosecution’s version.

The judge noted, “..though the confession before the police patil cann't be said to be reliable & conclusive proof, the other evidence on record clearly established the involvement of accused in assault upon her husband by means of sickle. From all circumstantial evidence on record & false explanation by the accused, as well as from the medical evidence, the prosecution has proved beyond reasonable doubt that it is the accused who caused the death of her husband Chandrakant by assaulting him by means of sickle”.

The judge noted in his order that the prosecution had proved all charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt, for which the accused had to be convicted & sentenced. The case rested on circumstantial evidence & records placed before court.
