On Wednesday, while hearing the petitionagainst the Farm Laws 2020, the Supreme Court cast itself in favour of consulation regarding the prevailing matter.

The three Farm Laws passed by the Parliament has trigerred a series of widespread protest and agigation against the Government. The Farmers have gathered on the Delhi Borders and have been indulged in talks and tussle with the Government on these recent legislations.

The Top Court bench headed by Chief Justice S A Bobde while taking up the plea filed by a Lawyer, said that it understands the situation of the farmers who are protesting at Delhi border braving harsh weather conditions.

The Court adjourned the matter for further hearing on 11th January after the Centre informed it that it is indulged in “healthy discussions” with farmers.

During the hearing, Attorney General K K Venugopal remarked that there is good chance that parties may come to a conclusion in the near future and filing of response by the Centre on the pleas challenging the new farm laws might foreclose the negotiations between the Farmers and Government.

The Bench nboted:

“We encourage consultation. We can adjourn the matters on Monday (January 11) if you submit the same due to the ongoing consultation process,”

The farmers have been protesting at Singhu, Tikri and Ghaziabad border points near the national capital demanding the repeal of the laws passed in September last year. Several rounds of talks have taken place between the government and the farmers but no resolution has been found.

The latest round of talks on January 4th, failed as the Government didn't agree to repeal the three Laws. As one Farm Leader informed, they have been asked to go to Supreme Court by the Union Agriculture Minister.
