The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has made significant progress in its crackdown on the banned terrorist organization Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF) with the arrest of two operatives involved in extortion, arms smuggling, and recruitment of youth.

The accused, identified as Amritpal Singh alias Ammy and Amrik Singh, both residents of Punjab, were apprehended at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) on May 19 after being deported from Manila, Philippines.

The NIA had been closely monitoring the activities of these individuals, who were close associates of Canada-based 'listed terrorist' Arshdeep Dhalla. Upon their arrival in India, the NIA team swiftly took action and arrested the duo, who were wanted for their involvement in various unlawful and violent activities associated with the KTF.

Investigations by the NIA have revealed that Amritpal and Amrik entered into a criminal conspiracy to raise funds for the banned organization and smuggle arms, ammunition, and explosives from across the border. They worked closely with Arshdeep Dhalla to promote the KTF's violent criminal activities within India. Alongside another wanted accused, Manpreet Singh alias Peeta, the arrested individuals were responsible for smuggling weapons from Pakistan and recruiting youth for carrying out acts of violence and terrorism in the country.

Additionally, the accused were part of an extortion racket aimed at generating funds for the banned outfit. They targeted businessmen and coerced them into parting with large sums of money. In cases where their demands were not met, their associates in India would carry out acts of intimidation and arson against the targets' homes and properties.

The NIA, through its ongoing efforts to crack down on individual terrorists and terrorist organizations, aims to dismantle networks involved in smuggling arms and raising funds for carrying out acts of terrorism on Indian soil. The agency has registered a suo moto case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, against the accused.

Furthermore, the Punjab Police had sought the transit remand of Amritpal and Amrik in connection with an extortion case registered in Jagraon Sadar, Ludhiana district, Punjab. However, the Patiala House Court in Delhi declined the application, stating that it was filed belatedly. The accused will be produced before the concerned court in Punjab based on a production warrant.

With investigations still ongoing, the NIA continues to gather evidence and pursue further leads in its mission to combat terrorism and maintain national security. The arrests of Amritpal Singh alias Ammy and Amrik Singh serve as a significant blow to the nefarious activities of the KTF and its associates.
