The Supreme Court declined a request for immediate listing of a petition concerning widespread disruptions caused by mass cancellation of Indigo flights. The Bench stated that the Union Government has already taken note of the situation and is actively responding to the matter.

During mentioning, counsel highlighted the difficulties faced by thousands of passengers who were reportedly stranded at airports across the country following sudden and large-scale cancellations by the airline. Counsel emphasised that such cancellations were effected without prior notice, terming the situation a matter of serious public concern.

Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, sitting with Justice Joymalya Bagchi, acknowledged the gravity of inconvenience faced by the public, particularly individuals with urgent travel, professional duties and medical needs. However, the Bench noted that the Government appears to have initiated necessary measures and therefore found no immediate ground for judicial intervention. “The situation is already under the Government’s consideration, and timely steps seem to be in progress. We may assess the position after some time,” the Court observed while declining an urgent listing.
