On Wednesday, the National Green Tribunal sought a response from the Centre, Uttar Pradesh’s forest and environment department, and other authorities regarding a plea accusing a realtor in Noida of environmental violations.

The plea, filed by residents of Jaypee Wishtown in Gautam Buddh Nagar, alleges that Jaypee Infratech Limited is making significant alterations in the township, violating environmental norms.

In a recent ruling, an NGT bench, led by Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, acknowledged concerns that the township is located on the Yamuna riverbed, approximately 2km from the river, near Okhla Bird Sanctuary. The bench which included Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi and expert member A Senthil Vel, also considered allegations of illegal tree felling and unauthorized commercial construction in green areas.

The tribunal noted the seriousness of the environmental compliance issue and issued notices to the respondents, directing them to submit their responses through affidavits at least one week before the next hearing on November 23.

Respondents in the case include the Centre, the Noida Development Authority, the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, the State Forest and Environment Department, and the SHO of Noida Sector 126.
