The Kerala High Court has formed a special bench to address issues arising from the Hema Committee report, which documented widespread sexual abuse allegations involving women actors and technicians in the Malayalam film industry.

The special bench was constituted by Acting Chief Justice A. Muhamed Mustaque and Justice S. Manu while hearing an appeal challenging a single-judge bench’s decision approving the release of the panel’s findings after redacting sensitive information.

The Court has directed the State Govt to submit the complete Hema Committee report, including the redacted portions, in a sealed cover by September 10. The Special bench is also expected to hear petitions seeking criminal action against individuals named in the report and a potential Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the allegations of sexual abuse.

The Hema Committee report, released on August 19, brought to light a male-dominated “power group” responsible for unofficial bans, wage disputes, and exploitation of junior artists in the film industry, sparking renewed focus on the #MeToo movement.
